From Environmental Engineer to Policy Planner
Ajarn Nick began her studies at the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, specializing in Environmental Engineering. She later pursued a Master's degree at the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Ph.D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States. Her postdoctoral research was conducted at MIT and the University of Tokyo, Japan.
As a professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, Ajarn Nick focuses her research on waste management policy, circular resource systems, urban and industrial environmental management for sustainable development. She is dedicated to teaching, writing academic papers and books, with over 100 published works to her name.
Ajarn Nick has served as the Director of Public Welfare at the Thailand Research Fund (2015-2019), Deputy Director at the Office of National Higher Education Science Research and Innovation Policy Council (2021-2022), overseeing budget and planning for national scientific research and innovation. She also served as Assistant to the President for Research at Chulalongkorn University (2023-2024), where she established the Chula Net Zero Research Platform to address Climate Change through integrated knowledge across disciplines. These experiences have enriched her skills in policymaking, project management, and budgeting while enhancing her understanding of stakeholder roles in driving successful policies.
From Research Management to Environmental Policy Expertise
Ajarn Nick currently serves as a board member specializing in science and technology for the National Climate Change Policy Committee and the Committee on Eco-Industrial Town Development under the Department of Industrial Works. She is also honored to be an advisor to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior on community and local environmental issues, providing her the opportunity to shape the country's key environmental policies.
Goals: Management Systems for Sustainable Development
Ajarn Nick’s work spans various roles beyond the classroom or lab. She was honored with the Outstanding Women Award in 2019 by the National Council of Women of Thailand under the Royal Patronage and received the Sakdi Intania Award in 2017 for her contributions to the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University.
As part of the Carbonoi team, Ajarn Nick is eager to share stories about the environment with everyone, showing that environmental care is not a distant issue but something that can start with small actions in daily life.
