From Computer Engineer to Economist
Ajarn Ploy's academic journey began at the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, in the Department of Computer Engineering. She later pursued her Master's and Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Michigan and the University of Southern California in the United States. During this time, she gained extensive experience in consulting, both in the U.S. and Thailand, which enhanced her ability to apply economic theory and technology to real-world business. She eventually transitioned to academia, becoming a professor at the Faculty of Economics at Chulalongkorn University.
Future-Oriented Research: Where Technology Meets Sustainable Development
Ajarn Ploy's research focuses on studying the impact of technology on business sectors and the socio-economic system. This includes analyzing ChatGPT's effect on productivity, exploring the economy within the Metaverse, and examining human behavior in the cryptocurrency market. In 2023, she received the National Research Award from the National Research Council of Thailand, further motivating her to continue advancing her research.
From 2020 to 2024, Ajarn Ploy served as Assistant to the President for International Affairs at Chulalongkorn University. This role broadened her perspective on global issues, particularly Sustainable Development Goals and Climate Change, inspiring her to delve into research aimed at using AI technology to address these challenges and promote sustainable development.
Currently, she is honored to be part of the Higher Education System Reform Committee under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, where she contributes to shaping the integration of AI within the country's higher education system.
Looking Ahead: From Theory to Practice
Ajarn Ploy believes that research should not remain on the shelf but should create a positive impact on society. To that end, she co-founded "Carbonoi" with Ajarn Nick and Ajarn Fon, with the goal of developing AI innovations to effectively address Climate Change. She believes that the combination of economics, technology, and environmental consciousness will be the key to creating a better world for future generations.
