Professor Chanathip Pharino, Ph.D. (Ajarn Nick)

Environmental Engineer advocating interdisciplinary integration for sustainable development

In the Classroom

Ajarn Nick began her academic journey at the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, majoring in Environmental Engineering. She pursued her master's degree at the University of Colorado at Boulder and her PhD at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. With research experience at MIT and the University of Tokyo, Japan, she currently teaches at the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University.

Her expertise lies in researching policies for urban and industrial environmental management systems. Ajarn Nick has authored more than hundred books and academic articles.

Outside the Classroom

Ajarn Nick has worked with the Thailand Science, Research, and Innovation (TSRI) office on developing Thailand’s science, research, and innovation budget and plans. She also established the Chula Net Zero Research Platform to address climate change through an interdisciplinary approach. Currently, she serves as an expert member on the National Climate Change Policy Committee, specializing in science and technology, and as an advisor to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, focusing on community and local environmental issues.

Q: What is Ajarn Nick's teaching style like?

A: I enjoy teaching through real-life examples and engaging in activities together with students. I learn new things from my students as well.

Q: What do you want to learn more about at this stage in life?

A: Life balance, AI technology, flower arranging, cooking, and photography.

Q: Besides being an academic, what else do you want to do?

A: I want to be a writer to share knowledge and a traveler to explore cultures and gain new experiences.

Q: What is your vision of an ideal livable city?

A: A city with a balance between convenience, environmental conservation, and quality of life, featuring an efficient waste management system and a good security system.

A: Our website aims to create a space for everyone to learn together, offering opportunities and encouragement. We hope to generate positive energy that contributes to sustainable change and green jobs for a better world.
